Sponsoring the “Kate Sheppard Cup” by providing $100,000 over 3 years in support of the national club-based women’s knockout competition.
In 2018 the New Zealand Football Foundation played a critical role in the relaunch of the New Zealand Football Women's Knockout Cup, now known as the Kate Sheppard Cup.
The Foundation sponsored the competition for three years, including through Covid-19, as part of its commitment to the growth and development of female football in New Zealand.
Through the sponsorship period club entries grew from 35 to 54 teams and the competition’s prestige and depth of quality continues to grow every year.
A key success of the sponsorship period was NZF bringing on board long-term commercial partners to further drive growth in the women's game, enabling the Foundation to channel its funding into other parts of community football ecosystem.
Every team needs supporters. At the New Zealand Football Foundation we are so grateful for our partners who believe in Football For Good just as much as we do. They know the power of sport to make real change in society and they are committed to helping us do the māhi to support our communities. The generosity of our partners is crucial to enable us to support so many worthy projects.
